When did Allis start putting the support bracket on the B? I just noticed the 2 for sale in the classifieds are posted as a 1940 and 1950 and neither one has the steering support.

I don't know how they could have always had em when they didn't put tapped holes in the torque tube to mount the bracket.

I'm not talking about the post in front of the steering wheel. I'm talking about the outboard support that was added to the steering gearbox. Look at the picture I posted, there is no support bracket on the output shaft of the steering gearbox.

As far as I know, that support bracket was on the C and CA only

That is a Gemmer gear box. The Ross box had the outside support which
was used on the "C" & CA. I can't find a listing for it in my parts book. Bob

Bee, that must be a borderline CA. It has the new style air cleaner from mid 52 or so on, but still has the pin hitch. I don't think too many CA's after 53 had the pin hitch, but I have been wrong before.

Same here, I don't think the B ever had one.

I have a 42 C that has been in the family since new.  I originally had the Gemmer box but we changed it to a Ross because the Gemmers were trouble.  The support for the steering sector (box) was added around 1946.  They were  made available as a "fix" to the problem with the sector coming loose from the torque tube.  The holes in the torque tube had to be drilled and tapped to mount the support.  I don't know aout the Bs.  I have a 1953 B that has the support and it is the same support that is on a CA.

I don't think you will find a B steering box that the end was long enough to reach the bracket saddle.

I never paid any attention to the late Bs with the CA type torque tube. They could have had the support plate. Prior to using the CA type torque tube the older Bs did not need them or use them. I can find no refrence for external steering gear support brackets like used on a C or CA for any Bs

Thanks Ken, that kinda makes sense. The late B's shared a few things with the CA. At least one B has it cause Tom has one.
