I have a distributor for my B that bolts in place of the mag. There is a 90 degree gearbox for the distributor to run vertically. I'm thinking oil should be in there. Does anyone know what weight and how much?

It looks like the horizontal part of the distributor adapter has a shaft running in a bushing. The body has a 1/8 NPT tapped hole, and I can't figure out why. It doesn't seem like you can add oil, because it wouldn't reach the shaft (already riding in a bushing).

Am I describing this well enough for anyone to know what I'm talking about without me taking a photo?

I'm not going to say what is right on your unit but we took 5 or 6 apart this past weekend to recondition, put together in one working unit, etc.  This is what I saw concerning the unit you have. 
Most have grease in them, heavy and with a cavitation around the gears.  Still seemed to be in good shape.
One or two had oil in with the grease...none only oil.
The tapped hole usually has a plug in it with a screw driver slot.  I have seen several with a grease zerk installed in the hole...never thought about if you could get grease to go into it...but they are there...not sure if there was a hole thru the bushing on those with the grease zerk but I will look this weekend.
Have I answered your question?  Not really but I thought I would tell you what I have observed.  Den

Thanks Den. Even if you didn't answer the question 100%, it's nice to hear from someone a lot more knowledgeable than me. I hadn't considered that there may be a hole in the bushing with internal grooves, and zerks come in 1/8" pipe. I had to look up "cavitation" in the dictionary. It sounds like a bad thing.

Scott, This is the manual that came with a distributor kit in 1950's.
