I'm working on a D17 diesel that needs a new tach, but it looks like there are no aftermarket tachs for a diesel--only for gas. Does anybody know where to find one for a diesel, or is there a way to make a D17 gas tach work on a diesel?
Thanks!

The gas one will work, just won't be accurate due to the different rated engine speeds between gas and diesel. I have seen advertised in Oliver Heritage a place in Independence Mo called Metro speedometer that claims to be able to restore and calibrate tach's.

I think the gas and diesel tach's drive different directions one clockwise and the other counter clockwise.

Yes, D-17 gas goes the wrong direction from a diesel. Dave.

Well, I won't try that then. I was able to order a new cable, but I guess I'll have to try some salvage yards or something for a diesel tach. Thanks for the info! Brad. |

The shop in Missouri does a real bang up job. Can redo yours or make diesel from gas. Have done several for me and look like new.

I had no idea the diesel turned the other way.

I'll probably check into that. Hopefully I can get that dash hole filled w/o spending an arm and a leg. Thanks a lot for the info.
