If I can get my better half talked into it, I'm going D17 shopping this weekend. The one I posted about earlier with the water in the oil issue. I've got a number in my head that I can bid up to. Now, what about an Allis Chalmers 170 loader? They've got one on the same auction. Looks pretty cherry. Given that my D17 will be there that might raise it a bit more, but what's a trip loader for a D17 worth? And finally, this would mean selling my WD. 3 bolt wide front, 14.9x28 with ok rims. WD block with all WD45 components from an AGCO OH kit I put in her 6 years ago. Starts and runs great, 12v with distributor. Has a WD9 loader mounted on it. Could I get $1,800 maybe $2,000 out of it, or am I way off. Do I really even "need" the D17. My WD does everything I need to do with it.

Have you considered the cost to get the water out of the oil on this D-17? Not only parts but your labor as well? Seems repairs always take longer to do and prices keep going up!
If you're happy with your known , good WD I'd be tempted to keep it...unless of course you can get the D-17 for say $500.
Just my thoughts.

Yeah, I'm not going to sit in sackcloth and ash if I don't get a D17. I also know what I'm up against with another engine, even if it's as simple as sleeve o-rings. I'm hoping that the D17 goes cheap with the water issue. It'd also be the last tractor I'd ever need and wouldn't have any problem running it to get my money back.

"the last tractor I'd ever need" . I used that line on my wife when I purchased my WD, and then a WD45, and then the D17. I've seen trip loaders $150-400. Your pricing on the WD seems very realistic.

and the D17 is a nice step up from the WD. Lots more horse power and better handling. One of the best tractors AC ever built... what series?

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

It's a 28xxx serial number. Looks to be a black grill series 1. Just have to see who else shows up. I guess AC made a D170 loader and a 170. The Dw as for the D17, the 170 was for the 170. Why anyone would put a trip loader on a 170 is beyond me, but they made them. Anyone know if a 170 loader will go on a D17? Guess I need to make a trip back to the auction with a tape and do some measuring.
