Hello, my early 80's ACC25B with a Continental F163 the solid state ignition box keeps going non functional (zapped). There is Petronix distributor available to replace it all, but I'd like to keep it stock original is there an ignition box brand that is quality? I check all wiring all good nothing shorted. Also what other options are there? thanks,,,

I am not familiar with that particular ignition system, it may be helpful if you could post a photo of the distributor with the cap removed so we could see what type of reluctor and sensor/pickup it uses.

the Petronix should be an UPGRADE... and "visually" you will not know the difference from stock... Why not Eliminate the old "ignition box" ?

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I installed a replacement ignition box, it is lighter and the backside has less "rubber" filling tells me it has less - different electronics in it, may be better longer lasting !!??
I rewired my ignition per hot-spark.com diagram where the power to the ignition box goes thru a ballast. It started right up ran smooth, there are more items to address on this lift before I use it. I looked into the Petronix D41-05A I found a post on ebay review that stated it is for a clockwise Continental F163 (4cyl) distributor, mine is counter clockwise his also, this purchaser stated he had to make an oil drive shaft and when accelerating it lost power found it the ignition was being turned back instead of advancing. So he installed the Petronix plate into the original distributor and has it working. I called Petronix help I could not get a definitive answer on rotation of their distributor. |
