You can buy a new motor for about the same price of overhaul it seems .
I replaced engine on my NH with a K341 with Honda V 18 HP the second time , first replacement was 16 HP Tecumseh - both were cheaper than what Kohler wanted for short block or replacement engine .

Kohler made an 18HP OHV engine which was used in the Simplicity 7018's and A-C 718's. It is a K-361. The Kohler K-Series are very good engines. I just replaced the K-341 16HP in my 1982 A-C 916 this past February. Engine was the original and the tractor was formerly owned by a local school district. Needless to say the engine had a ton of hours on it. I replaced it with a 16HP Kohler "Magnum" M16 single-cylinder engine I bought from Northern Tool. Only had to make a few alterations. They are virtually the same engine as the K-Series but have different shrouding and use electronic ignition. Unfortunately the EPA is putting increasing pressure on manufacturers to stop production of the "L" head engines. I see Small Engine Warehouse still offers a pretty good selection on there website. They are just as good as the Briggs Cast-Iron Single Cylinders. I like both Kohler and Briggs engines! |
