I'm going to pull the distributor out today. 1997 f250 with 5.8 liter
My question is mainly about the oil pump drive. I've done distributors in chevys and mopars but never a ford. Looks like the oil pump is hex so that should make lining up easier then chevy. Will the shaft come with the distributor creating a mess? Any other thoughts you guys might have? |

It’s been awhile since I’ve worked on that engine but if I recall correctly, yes the oil pump shaft will come out with the distributor. It is indeed a hex shaft and should have a spring type clip on the end of the shaft that”holds” the shaft in the end of the distributor shaft. Just be careful pulling it out in case the shaft lets loose. You don’t want to have to go fishing for the shaft. Like I said it’s been awhile but that’s what I recall. I do have a service manual I could look it up if you’d like me too in a day or two.
