Rainy afternoon so I finished up my 917 project which included pulling the engine, remove all the shrouds, degrease, and replace the pto and front seals. Replaced the head gaskets, cleaned the heads, new valve cover gaskets, fresh oil change, new air cleaner, plugs, checked the points. The starter was hanging up so it got a good cleaning. It’s been about 4 months since it was run last so she didn’t run very smooth and was hard to start. Put some Seafoam in the tank and within 5 minutes she was running as smooth as before. Darn gas is crap anymore and only gets non ethanol
So I moved on to project number 2, putting together the deck. I purchased this NOS 48” deck at the MD. GOTO for $125 !!!. It was missing the pto pulley, the spring to the idler pulley and 1 of the bag of bolts. The bolts were common stuff and SLI has the missing few parts. The rollers alone would have cost me that much for my worn out AC deck. This is the Simplicity version. My deck is flat worn out, I’ve welded and patched it so many times. Looking forward to cut some grass in a few months.

That deck is a great find and at a bargain price too! I would love to find a 50c or two just like that for my Cub Cadets!

Finished putting the deck together. Just waiting for the pulley and spring to arrive. Really enjoyed how handy my new 1,200 lb electric winch made it so easy to work on this deck without having to lift or bend over to put this together.

Tried out my NOS Simplicity deck I purchased. Nice deck, mowed well but I’m definitely not happy with how the deflection shield blows grass back on my rear wheel. Grass was slightly wet and it stained the wheel. Will take some scrubbing to get the green stain off. Will either install the AC deflection shield from my old deck or make a deflection plate to add to the Simplicity shield. Otherwise, pretty happy. Have about $250 in a brand new deck with belt and a few parts I had to buy that were missing.

The opening is different. Look at your other deck, has smaller opening. This deck was like on the old yellow style tractors. We always liked these decks for thick grass, didn’t plug up as bad. Still nice find
