Why would anyone ever put an S300 on a 301 with limited RPM? I'd suggest the new S200 supercore. They have all the advantages of the S300, but in a smaller package to fit the needs of these smaller engines. I keep both sizes in stock, and 3 different turbine housings. They sell for $750 with your choice of turbine housing. 1.0, 1.09, 1.15 are the 3 I keep.

Who did your injection pump? You will need every drop you can squeeze out of it. Ed would be my pick for that job.
Not sure of your inlet size or outlet on your S300 but it's too big. Also "modified turbo" can be a good thing or a bad thing. I have seen enhanced turbos that wouldn't work on any engine with any fuel system, so be careful there. I would guess you will need a turbo with a 2.4 (60 mm) diameter inlet. Something newer with a MAP groove in it. Turbine wheel sizes can vary. Somewhere around a 2.6 - 2.8 outlet. Tight exhaust housing. Intercooler will help if its legal. I would pick a Holset HX40. |

the s300 was 2.4 inlet with a .70 T3 turbine housing 2.7 outlet. had 64 psi on intake side and 72 on exhaust side.

What have you got your pump timed at ?? retarding it a couple degrees might help with lugging. You're only running 3,000 tops, so extra timing isn't needed.

Are you limited to a Rotary pump and 3k rpm or are you just wanting to run them because you have them?

With what you have why not try a hx35. You can find them everywhere for practicly nothing. Worked pretty good on my 301 at 3000rpm. No intercooler. Not to say the s200 or hx 40 wouldn't be bettee but i bet you can find a good hx35 for $50

Okay, so find a stock off the shelf 3LM 466 or as suggested an HX 35 and bolt it on. If it still sneezes then you either do not have enough fuel out of your existing pump or there is something out of tune within the engine. Another option would be to bolt on an off the shelf S300 just like what you have without the "modifications". If it lugs better than the modified turbo you have learned something. Still might not be the right turbo, but it would be a direct fit / easy to try.
What size are your injectors? Do you have any cylinder head work done? Show us a video if you have one. Edited by O.P.S. Heads - 31 Aug 2016 at 9:50pm |

have 4x.022 injectors, slight cam grind and cut pistons. I tried 3lm 466 turbo with no luck. Currently have engine torn down and looking at things. Possibly too low of compression. Hard to get off the line and falls under turbo pretty quick. Adjusting timing didn't seem to change things.

I've never thought a 3LM466 is good for a 3000 rpm 301. Just way to big a turbo, unless it has a P pump capable of 600cc. Who did the pump? Not all .450 pumps are the same. I still think the S200 would be a nice match. Don't let it's small size intimidate you lol!

I had an S3 hundred turbo 1772 72 part number with an 88 housing for 3000 RPM and a 91 housing for open rpm 60 pounds of boost no problem. I've had a lot of trial and error and found out your exhaust housing is the main part of your turbo. You've got to have heat and pressure on the exhaust side before you ever get boost .
