Ask any East Texas Old Timer and he will tell you to wait till after Easter to plant tender transplants in the garden. Easter is April First this year.
Old Timers also say Hickory and Pecan Trees can't be fooled into budding out early, I see them budding out now. I think we have seen the last frost, Oaks and gums are leafing out with the maples and cherries . Pond is yellow green with floating tree pollen

Old wisdom around here is to not plant anything until Good Friday. Don't think we will have any more frost after Easter. Peach trees have bloomed, cherry trees are blooming now but the pecan trees are not budding yet. And the pollen is giving my allergies fits.

My grandpa always wanted to plant oats on Good Friday. That comes pretty dang early some years for getting on a field in Michigan! A lot of these old guidelines are based more around Memorial Day in Michigan! Hahaha. And yes, I've plowed a field while it was snowing on Memorial Day weekend!!!

Was told by the 'old farmer' NOT to plant 'tenders' until after the Bridal's Wreath Spirea had bloomed for 3 days.
I still follow his sage advice for over 25 years. Yeesh 1/2 of a century, man I feel old.... Jay |
