Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and am looking for any information on this engine I bought at an auction near me for ten dollars.

I believe it is a 60H power unit that I believe is the same engine that is in a B or C tractor.
The engine serial number is R5100 and might be mod 40's vintage. it has a large crack on the drain side of the block and three cracks between the cylinders.

I am trying to find out what year this engine is and if anyone out there has any experience repairing the cracks in the block.

Any help will be appreciated.

First thing I'd do, is see if the engine rolls over, 3-4 full revolutions should determine that nothing is froze up, mechanically.  Assuming its worth patching, it sounds as if it got froze real hard, to crack up that much. I've seen some downright ingenious patching done, but I'd seriously consider using it as a parts donor, to a good block. Post a couple pics of the cracked area(s) and you'll get more responses...

I have been taking the engine apart, it is free and the cylinder walls look not bad. I have taken the zenith carb apart and it all looks good just needs a new gasket and it should work fine, the intake/exhaust manifold is shot, broken end severely rusted with large holes.
The head had one stuck valve that is now free and closing, the head is very dirty but no cracks so far and it looks serviceable.
I have not taken the crank or pistons out yet but everything in the crankcase look fine.
The oil had turned to thick sludge with no evidence of water in the crankcase.
Oil pump looks fine, the air cleaner cup has rusted out and the gas tank is rusted through as well, so is the bottom tank of the radiator.
So far things have come apart fairly easily, I have only broken onew bolt so far and was able to remove it without doing any damage to the threads in the block.
The hood sheet metal has a large square hole cut in it.
The magneto and governor are there and look ok so far.
The clutch pressure plate fingers are very worn and need replacement, flywheel looks good and the clutch was worn but not worn out.  
I will post some picks tomorrow.
I am looking for any info on this engine I can find, and would like to see a picture of the power unit as it looked new.

That engine was used a lot to run ride for the fairs .

That is interesting one idea I have for this engine is to find a vintage fair ride and run it with the engine, if I can get it running.
Do you know where I can find any more information or pictures of this engine?

Here are some pictures of the engine block and head apart so far.
I have been a little under the weather and have not worked on it in the last couple of days.
The unit was fairly complete when I bought it, but I have seen no pictures of one as they were sold new, so I am not sure what it anything is missing.

All the parts to make a motor run are there as far as I can tell, it also came with a power reduction unit bolted to the bell housing that appears to be a 3 to 1 reduction unit with a short driveshaft attached to it.

Well I don't know what happened, I tried to post 6 or 7 pictures and only one posted and it is very zoomed in. This picture shows the cracks between the cylinders. There is also a crack on the outside of the block that runs almost 3/4 of the way across it on right side of the block.

I wouldn't worry about the cracks between 2-3, and 3-4, they get covered by the HG.  The one on the outside of the block is the worrysome one, if it is into an oil gallery. If you can draw a vacuum across the oil gallery, in the block, and it holds,  its not into the oil gallery(yet)  Looks like some water or ping damage to jug #3, too...
