My new to me 8030 finally arrived last week and I have spent the last couple of days inspecting every inch of it.  So far I am very happy with what I see.  But there are a couple of things I have not been able to figure out:

The signal lights to do not flash in either direction - they stay solid on in their respective directions.  Both flashers will flash when the signal lights are not being used.  I looked in the manual and parts book, but I do not see anything about a separate flasher device under the dash.

Secondly, the previous owner added an orange strobe light on top of the cab and used one of the wires that plug into the back of the main light switch.  He cut and spliced into a green wire that connects to the light switch.  Any idea what that green wire ran before it was cut?  The wiring diagram in the manual does not show a green wire coming off the light switch.

Lastly, the previous owner says that the batteries drain down pretty quickly.  I am suspecting something in the alternator is causing it.  The alternator does work when the engine is running.  I am going to send it to my local shop to go over it and inspect.  I did notice there is a green wire not connected to the alternator - just hanging there.  I am assuming it is for the ground.  I doubt this would be the cause of the batteries draining down though.

The turn signal switch is also the flasher unit. If you suspect that the alternator is causing the drain, simply unhook the wires on it for a few days and see if the batteries stayed up.

I can't remember what my 8010 done with turn signals/flasher switch,, but installed an update switch from agco and fixed my problem.

Yes, I have left the cable unhooked and the batteries stay up.  That why I am pretty sure the alternator is at fault.

Micheal V, I have asked my agco dealer about replacement of the flasher unit but they said nothing was available. I have 3 tractors that I would like to have blinkers on again not just flashers. When blinker switch quit I just bypassed it but did not disturb original wiring. Could you let me know a number or info on this agco part?

I think there is a John Deere flasher unit, AR64422, that is the correct one for the Allis 8000 series also.  At least I know I had a used one from some John Deere on the shelf and it was identical to the Allis one.  The tractor's unit wouldn't even flash and my used one still did so I swapped them and at least have flashers now but no turn signals.  it's getting hard to remember my half measure solutions, I guess I need to buy a new replacement too.

Thats great information. Ive just got an L3 combine that needs a flasher it may fool me but it looks just like the ones in my 8070s

Leon,, I don't have any part numbers for ya.this happened several years ago and bout all do remember is I replaced the complete light switch,mine has the flashers,work lights and drive lights, I had to add an included ground wire. The original was a Lucas, I'm not sure what brand the replacement was, but needed this ground to work right....I think this helped a lot of problems. This may,or may not help your turn light problems

My light switch is fine My problem is in the blinker switch. I'll take that John Deere number up to them and my old switch just to see if they're comparable and what the price would be from John Deere. If I do find something I'll let everyone know here. I currently have a jumper wire going from the hazard post on the light switch to a mechanical automotive flasher that I installed myself and from the flasher back into the blinker harness to feed all four of the flashers. But that does not give me a left or right blinker. With our bigger equipment including planters and grain cards it would be very nice to let people behind us know when we're getting ready to turn left.

More electrical gremlins discovered:  Found these wires wrapped around the main harness and tucked in behind the frame rail below the oil filters.  They were quite dirty, so I assume they had not been connected in a long time.  The problem is, I don't know where they hook up.  I have determined the green wire goes to the oil pressure sensor on the engine.  The wiring diagram in the manual did not help much in my search.  The water temperature, air conditioning and air cleaner restriction sensor already have wires connected to them.

Can anyone tell me where these wires go and what they do?

The green wire is for the engine oil pressure. The others aren't used. You must have a power shift tractor.

Thanks, I checked out the online parts book and it seems that some of those wires were for the agri data digital dash option.  Is it safe to assume none of these wires are live?  I got a Delco 10SI alternator from my local shop - they cranked it up to 94 amps and gave me a 1 year warranty.

Next issue:  The rear window at the bottom of the cab is cracked.  AGCO actually had a new one in stock.  This window is glued in place.  What would be the best way remove the glass that is glued to the metal?

2nd issue (down the road):  The rear main seal seems to have a pretty good leak.  Has anyone had to replace it?  I am thinking it's going to be a pain in the butt job.  Any suggestions would be welcome - it's powershift with front wheel assist.

I did a search on the John Deere number ar64422. It came up that Steiner tractor parts has them in stock and it says it fits Aliis, Gleaner, Case and various other tractors. I went ahead and ordered one, $65 with shipping. It shows a picture of the terminals on the back and it looks to be identical. When it gets here I'll post an update if it works.

The AC components get unbolted and put in cab. Probably have to wire compressor to grab handle. Never dealt with FWA but there's some extra stuff to do there. There is a installer tool for that rr main and wear sleeve. Can be done without it but tricky. Good luck....you can do it.

Update:  Put a new Delco 10SI 1 wire alternator on the tractor and had both batteries charged to 12.5 volts.  Batteries are only 3-4 months old.  Started and ran the tractor for half an hour or so (loving the powershift by the way).  Let it sit until the following weekend and it would not crank over - lights and fuel pump would come on, but that's it.  Voltage on batteries were down to 10.8 and 11.3 volts. 

Disconnected battery cables and let the tractor sit another week.  Checked battery voltage and there was no change - 10.8 and 11.3 still.  This means there must be something draining the voltage on the tractor when it is not running.  Anyone know how and were to start diagnosing this?  The tractor did have a trailer light socket and strobe light (not factory) when I bought it, but those were disconnected and removed shortly aft I got it.  It does look like some of the wiring at the HVAC controls might have been fiddled around with as well.  Everything else looks stock.  Any ideas?

Also wondering which dash lights should come on when the key is turned to the "on" position.  I only get alternator, engine oil pressure and trans hydraulic filter.  Thinking there should be more.  All the lights come on when pushing the test button.
