1952 b model   just wondering if I need a thermostat .  checking a few things on this new project I picked up  noticed there was none.  how important is it to install one or leave as is.....

They used shutters to control he heat. There should be a hole on the right side top for the adjuster. Shutters can be found.

By 1952 they had thermostats installed... Most of them leak by today, or were removed and run with none... Thermostat is always a good idea to maintain a constant 180 degrees, but like I said, MANY don't have one today... if your running in the summer in LA, probably not that big of a deal... If your going to use all winter, might be a good idea.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
