wd 45 hyd. pump problems

ok all you wd45 experts need to pick your brain,hydraulics seem very slow,some times won't lift all the way.took the pump off,tore it down on the bench nothing seems to out of line.or at least jumped out and bit me in the square in the,well you know what I mean.
what should I look for?
 any help would be great!

I would guess the unloader valve is hanging up and letting oil by or the ball and seat in it are not matched up and leaking. Just a guess though. Charlie

i an pretty much in agreement with tucker.i would get a 3000 psi pressure guage and plumb it into the traction booster port,and see what you have with the pump in operation.it will tell you a lot in a short time..

Thanks guys I think the unloader valve is most of my troubles, the o-rings had some small cuts on them,and the unloader valve wasn't moving quite like I would to see.ordered some new o-rings and I see what happens. Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't put a 3000 psi gauge on it. These were set up to run 3500psi, when I had a guy work on my pump he got an improperly machined relief spool and it wouldn't unload til over 9000 psi. I had to buy the 5000 psi gauge I borrowed from work cause it don't work anymore.

I don't know how it did either and I have schedule 40 pipe fittings in a couple places. I'm just glad it did stay together even though it was only for a couple seconds it did build up pressure and then bypass. I used the tractor to clean the snow off the drive, but never let it stroke out to bypass again until I got it apart to fix it.

Slow pumping would sound more like the control valves not shifting all the way foward.Good luck getting the unloader o-rings in or out past those sharp little holes without damage.Be sure the thumb screw on the front is out against the clutch housing for full stroke.Mine took alot more shims on the unloader than the book calls for to make it half way decent and this was on a new unloader.I still wonder if the ball/seat on the back that the unloder feeds is all it should be.The ones on top have been replaced at least twice to no avail.It makes good pressure just off idle(always did) but at 1/2 throttle up it is all over the place.

It could be one or 2 of the low pressure plungers aren't working or the check balls are leaking. 3 pistons make volume and 1 makes high pressure.
