I have a couple of the translucent top trailers that have a few leaks. What is best method of patching or stopping leaks. Thanks Tracy

We had some leaks in the top of our enclosed trailer (just 6*12, not semi, but I assume it would be the same) we talked to a guy at a trailer place where they built trailers, and he sold us some special stuff for doing roof seams, it doesn't ever get completely hard (supposedly). I can take a picture of the tube and post it if you would like. It was expensive though, like $40/tube, and we needed three tubes for the top of our trailer (to do all the seams, since we were at it.....)

Not sure how it would work on that type of material but mobile home roof stuff might fix it. I used to find the leaks and just do them and it worked every time. That was a long time ago, but they said it had fiberglass in it. Seems it was $40 for a 5 gal. bucket back then. Early 80's.

I think them kind roofs are fibreglass,, so might try a fiberglass repair stuff....

that new stuff advertised on TV is sum really good stuff. "flex seal" I think they call it. I've used the spray on stuff and it worked great and still holding, that was a couple years ago. and now they have a patch like stuff that goes on wet or dry surfaces. you can also gits rubber cement in tubes or buckets.

The toughest stuff I've used is what you get when you put metal roofs on your house. I've never seen it's equal.

The guys at the camper place told me to use white flex seal on the top of this ferd. I actually found a gallon at Menards last week. Was 89.++. First time I saw the white at Menards.

Tracy...couldn't get a good picture as the tube was all taped up and stuff, but I got a good enough look to get the brand and goop type off it, it is Trem Pro 638 SSL, this stuff: http://www.tremcosealants.com/products/trempro-638-ssl.aspx
Seemed to work good, no hard feelings if you want to use something else though.  |

I have used this tape on a box truck roof seam. I believe it would work on holes as well, even if you had to pop rivet an aluminum patch over the hole first. I think it would work on fiberglass. Surface needs to be clean and dry, and when it makes contact it is there, no lifting and resetting. They recommend peeling the backing on an end to start then work along it pulling the backing as you go.

At some point the fiberglass panels will degrade where nothing will seal them. At that point will need to cut them out and cover the holes with either more of the same or sheet aluminum. Chased this issue years back on aging semi trailers and not ever managed a seal that lasted more than a few months.

yeah the Sun ( that orange ball in sky...) sends a LOT of UV to us ! Anything exposed to it WILL degrade over time including natural white nylon tyraps...sigh.... I'm wondering if 'clearcoat' has a lot of UV inihibiters ? If so, a few light coats might be a worthwhile investment .

Leon R Has it right I think. When we put metal on our roof we use the sealer they recommended. dang it got TOUGH and hasn't let loose yet. Leon
