My OLD Ford Super Duty is getting as tired as I am.  Spent the last few days sorting out minor and somewhat EXPENSIVE concerns on it as comes due for a State Inspection.

Where to start.
Went to try to start it, barely crank so KNEW was not gonna go, got booster charger out, got it to the shop floor.  Both Batteries changed last in 2014, EIGHT years I got from those so not unhappy, decided to service as due, not on miles but time.  Got a Fuel Filter and Air Filter with a Temperature sender with the Batteries, $500 tab.  Had to repair the Battery Tie down bolt Left Side, is extended as box is recessed around Air Intake, Odd way to construct where Ford no longer has them, will make something better, later.

Under it found Muffler split open so ordered that where cab is crumbling away.  Did not do all that bad in 23 years (Sept 1999 bought new) but started contemplating next moves with it as finished KW except for AC.  Then the 7.3 became a long crank, glow plugs NOT getting it, found bad GP Relay and got that changed but not before the new Fuel Filter decided to leak like a fire hose, but believe fixed that where could not see a issue with seals when pulled back out.

Old Mechanic Brains do not function Normally in these concerns!!  Think Eyegor on Young Frankenstein, Abby, Abby normal!!

Thoughts already running to find a 1960s IHC B200 Travelette or bigger with a Crew Cab, maybe a V210 that can mod into a Crew(Not too bright idea), perhaps a old Civil Service Loadstar Crew as Forestry used for decades.  Convert onto My Chassis.  Friends in the Business suggested a old Travelall even as the 1970 years could hear those rust as sat next to them.

Oh the Considerations, hmmmmm.

I hear ya.
My 95 Suburban is almost to point of ‘fish or cut bait’.
350 w/TBI always has been a dog, 13-14 mpg if you baby it.
Rear A/C no longer works, as supposedly an obstruction somewhere in the refrigerant piping.
Drivers side floor is rusting away and sinking.
All doors open hard, you need to tug on them to open, wife can’t open front passenger door from inside.
Transfer case has slow leak, been topping it off at every oil change.
CD player no longer works.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Sad to consider the running gear will outlast the truck.

Yep. I’m there with you DMiller. I have a 2000 F350 that’s requiring “inescapable attention.” Bought it new, May 2000. So 24 yrs old this coming May 2023. I consider that to be a great value, so no complaints here. Although last winter’s brake line repair by ABS control located under battery case in 10F weather is not a fond memory. On another positive note though, I utilize YouTube for numerous videos for an accumulative knowledge, if I’m patient enough to wade thru some video “$h!@@“. A HUGE “Thank you” to all the people that understand good video content, less gabbing & get to the point know how’s.

If I want to be entertained, I’ll sometimes watch “puddin’s fab shop”. Speaking of which, checkout Puddin’s 68’ IH Travelall conversion(54? 7-20 minutes videos). Here’s a link To his 1st video on it~I think...?

I may just look around and see what can come up with for a donor machine to build a Frankentruck.

Can get cabs from down south(2000-2004 years), most have some degree of corruption, some body damage, regardless is less than a new truck.  Can over haul suspension, differentials, do the body work or full conversion cheaper than could buy anything even used.  Bed is thrashed and trashed, almost nothing left of underfloor body reinforcements, chassis however is n awesome condition.  Would need to buy or build a rear bed.

Have remainder of brake line kit I bought a few years back need to finish swapping out as the rear line and the front x-member line had to be replaced and only way to get was in this kit.
