I'm pretty sure I've told of Mr. Reid before, I passed his farm daily when still working, and got caught behind him many a day as he slowly drove one of his tractors down our ever busying roads. He drove one of his tractors from here in Georgia to Washington DC back in 1979 during the farm protest.  I met him at the parts counter of the first Ford Tractor Dealership I worked at, he had gotten so mad at me because I didn't understand which part he was describing on his baler. He told me that as soon as we closed that day at lunch, to come straight to his barns, when I got there he had one of his New Holland balers outside with every cover off. Mr. Reid made me hand feed the baler hay and turn it over by the flywheel by hand as he showed me the entire process through the baler showing me what each and every part did. It was a lesson I carried through all my working days. Oh to have someone like that to teach our youth today!

Take a few moments to read all this mans obituary,it's truly a testament to the greatness of the American farmer and a God fearing man
R.I.P. sir

Thanks for the post. The "Old Timers" had their way and my dad always told me to listen to the old timers. My dad has been gone for 10 years but I have never forgotten that lesson,

My condolences to Mr. Reid & all his loved ones. During this morning’s coffee, I read aloud his wonderful obituary to my wife. We both enjoyed hearing it’s similarities that allowed us to reminisce about the past greats from our own communities. Thanks for sharing.

The obituary of Mr Reid tells the story of why the farmer has been the historic backbone of America.

What a wonderful person.  When I was in the business with my father I always delighted in working with these types of people.  The people who made the United States What It IS.
I am certain he will be missed by all.
My thoughts and Prayers are with his family in this time of Sorrow.
Good Luck!

Seems like a great man. Loving the Lord and helping others to find him is a blessing beyond measure. Sad story about his son and daughter in law. Those three men should have been executed that murdered them. God Bless his family!
No greater gift than healthy grandkids!

He sounds like the kind of guy you want as a neighbor.  Had a full life and did a lot of good.  Did he favor any brand of tractors?

John, their first tractor was an unstyled WC it’s been restored and is always in our parade, the had a big 7000 series when I first knew him, I believe it was a 7040.his son that was murdered owned a Massey dealership , so he ran red for a while, but usually just ended up with the best of his sons trade-ins. towards the end he had been pretty much green.
