Just curious if any on the forum has changed an air filter on the D-17 Series IV?
I have this on my to do list and have never done this procedure. In looking at mine it appears there is an "end seal retainer" that should also be replaced in addition to the filter. I'm hoping AGCO carries the filter and seal however have not checked yet. Any experiences would be appreciated hearing about. Thanks in advance!

We use compressed air blow then wash in soap and water solution and let it dry on the driveway for a day in the sun. Bought a new filter maybe 7 years ago at a local auto parts store (not the autozone type auto parts stores). Tractor is used about 100 hrs/ yr

Haven't done a D 17 but all I have done the seal is on the air filter when you buy it. If you buy a new one try to get the number off the old one, that really helps.

I'm in the same boat as Stan, I put about the same number of hours per year on a 17IV Gasser.
Still running the same filter that came in the tractor about five years ago as it is in pretty good shape. Have a new filter from NAPA on the shelf and actually installed it after cleaning the old filter just to see if any noticeable difference, none noted.
Clean the older filter once a year in a five gallon bucket with a degreaser type cleaner that is not overly aggressive, quickly stroking it up in down in the water solution seems to help but it really never get's dirty. Multiple rinse the same way, blow it off/out after some good shakes and air dry in the sun so I can see what it really looks like in the sun.
I've had some that came to me in tractors that just were not worth it as someone let them go far to long, super dirty and/or rubber gasket separating.
Have one in a D15II I picked up and has "1973" on it, still in use and seams to have a thicker rubber face seal but that tractor used for brush cutting has both the radiator and filter cleaned daily and it also has the aftermarket pre-cleaner bowl installed vs. the OEM mushroom cap.
Cheap insurance at 23. - 28.00, if in doubt good to just change it as NAPA keeps this common filter on the shelf.

Thanks.  The number on the D-17 Series IV air filter=#70237395.  I'll have to ask if the that includes the gasket or not.  They seem to be available for around $25.  On my D-17, it appears that the retainer end and end seal should be replaced as well.  Any thoughts if those are necessary or can it run without those if they are wore out and the replacement not available?

Thanks again in advance!
