The main needle was bent. Ordered a new carb from Amazon. I'll let you guys know if that fixes the problem. More than likely it will. Thanks!

Ok, so I removed and cleaned the carburetor, now it just seems to be spewing fuel out of the air intake/choke....I'm perplexed.

So, now it won't start at all. Seems to be having trouble getting fuel, as it will fire up for a few seconds when I use starter fluid. The fuel seems to be flowing in and out of the pump just fine. Any ideas?

Screw the idle mixture screw in all the way and back out 1.5 turns and the high speed needle valve screwed out 2 turns out from bottom.
Set your idle screw to a medium idle- not fast/or slow- then adjust your idle mixture valve until it smooths out by finding the midway point between too rich and too lean. Then you may be able to slow the idle down a little to a lower idle speed without it flooding out. Now, open it up to full throttle and adjust the high speed needle valve to the midway point between too rich and too lean for a smooth sound and speed. Check your tank for trash and/or rust plugging your drain. You may need to change the condensor and points if you can't restart it immediately and have to wait for it to cool off. One more thing: Use non ethanol gasoline if you can. HTH.

Thanks again for all the answers! I'm sure I'll have more questions, lol. I do have both manuals, but sometimes it's better to hear from people with experience using/relating things.

Make sure all your pulleys and blades are ok
and that they spin freely. Inspect the mower drive belt and clean any trash of the top of the deck. It's not hard to install the deck. Turn the wheels hard right. Lower the lift handle fully and pull lift cable down. Slide the deck under the tractor from the left side. Attach lift cable to top of deck. Lift deck with hand lift. Attach the front 2 pins on front of deck to the mounts under the front of the tractor. Attach the belt to the deck and to the drive pulley on the left side of tractor. The belt goes on the inside groove of the pulley on the tractor. The belt tensioner is a black handle located by the left rear wheel. Pull up to tension belt and down to release tension. The oil capacity is about 2 quarts. Just drain and fill with new oil. If you need a manual you can download one at bsintex.basco.com Just do a Google search for allis 900 series manual. |

Talk to Steve at b&b or go to an auto parts store. They make a universal 20A breaker that will replace it. It will have 2 threaded studs and a single hole on the side for mounting it.
You may have just a bad connection with the wires to and from the breaker. Edited by irlbeck A-C'S - 04 Jun 2015 at 5:35pm |

Ok, that's where I thought it was. I'll have to dig it out of there this weekend. Does anyone have a parts number for one? I'm pretty sure once that gets replaced, as well as the solenoid she'll start right up. Thanks a million guys!

Thanks guys! From what I'm reading, any 3 pole solenoid should work. Steve, I can't find anything that looks similar to the breaker in my tractor. I'll post pics of what's in there as soon as I figure out how lol.

I typed in Simplicity solenoid on their site and this is what came up:
435-435 , 435-099 , 435-032 It didn't bring up anything when I typed in Allis Chalmers solenoid. here's their main site: www.stens.com LINK: http://www.stens.com/Portal.aspx?CN=637179B36C57&SEARCH=Simplicity%20solenoid&GCONTENTID=DBC825CBB3E6&RND=42789327003993094

Yeah you are right there Craig ma' man! Its gettin' tougher and tougher. We handle a lot of electrical components from Littlefuse mainly because its USA made. So far we've been dartin' that Chinese crap! As Craig mentioned, all power comes in through the circuit breaker from the Battery. The wiring around the engine area gets so brittle from the heat, that you may have a break somewhere, or like Craig said, corrosion is a big factor on these old Garden Tractors, especially if they were left out in the rain during their life span...
To add to the Battery question, I use the small Gell Batteries where you don't have to worry so much about the acid removing the paint off your Tractor especially after putting a nice paint job on them. The group number is a U1 which is used for wheelchairs & recreational equipment. You can pick em' up at Napa to. Their P/N is 8228 I believe. Edited by Steve in NJ - 03 Jun 2015 at 6:51am |

Sure sounds like it could be the circuit breaker. I have had them go bad or the post corrode off. The wire usually has a sleeve type connector that pushes on the threaded post. You can loose connection there as well. Some folks will cut the sleeve off and put a connector on the end and tighten it with a nut on the post.
The last breaker I bought was at oreillys auto. It was around $3 but the thing i liked was that is was built here in the USA by Littelfuse. Can't buy many things that are built here anymore. |

You're welcome Jim. Glad to help.
Do you have power to the lights or elsewhere? You may want to check the circuit breaker or the connections on the breaker. Looking from the front of the tractor, It is a small rectangle box mounted on the wall below and to the left of the solenoid. It will have 2 wires coming out of it. Ok, so after installing a new switch, new battery, cables and spark plug...she didn't make a squeak with the key. Traced all connections with a voltameter and discovered no power coming from the starter solenoid. The motor turns when jumped straight from the battery. Would a universal 3 pole solenoid work? I haven't seen anything that resembles the one I took out, at least not new.
Thanks! |

Well Irlbeck,
I stand corrected. It's there on my 914 Hydro with the top numbers missing, but it says at the top of the decal "For 7100 Series". The decal is not under the hood on my 712S.

Irlbeck:
Thanks for posting your decal pic as my hood didn't have that under it. So, I just copied it to a pic and saved it to look up the numbers on Sten's site and then go look up my price in their catalog. Much appreciated!
