The tach cable has a square cross section. In the distributor, there is a round opening and a round receptacle for the tach cable. There is a 1/16" slot for in the receptacle for the tach cable. Does a round or rectangular woodruff key go in this slot to hold the cable? If so, what is the orientation and size of the round woodruff key?
I put a new tach and cable on my tractor. It worked intermittantly at first, now it doesn't work at all. The cable at the tach end does not spin when the engine runs. The actual cable itself is not fitting up tight within the distributor. I've got a little woodruff key in the dist to hold the cable. It's oriented with the round part next to the cable, and the flat part away. The cable caps do screw on firmly to the tach and dist.
