My D12s both had hard steering. Turned out that the gear box on the torque tube was in dire need of rehab. Removed, diassembled, cleaned out 50 yrs of gunk, rebuilt the upper and lower bearings (balls fell out & races were somewhat pitted...esp the top bearing...from yrs of inadequate lubrication). Was lucky in that the worm and pinion pin were not damaged. Reassembled placed the bottom bearing/race on the top and the top bearing/race on the bottom (bottom bearing/race is always in lube), new seals and fresh 80 wt gear lube. Steering is much improved.
What this country needs is more unemployed politicians-and lawyers.
Currently have: 1 D14 and a D15S2.
With new owners: 2Bs,9CAs,1WD,2 D12s,5D14s,3D15S2s, 2D17SIVs,D17D,1D19D;1 Unstyled WC

What does the D12 use for a steering box? If the same as the CA, there's a source for some of the parts.
WC, CA, D14, WD45
