I got "Autolite 295" from a post here. When I went to the parts store they cross referenced to Champion "J8C'. Is this an OK plug for my tractor?

Go to another store. Autolites have worked much better for me than Champion. I used to use Champion however when I switched to Autolite 295 in my WD45, D17 & D14 my plug problems went away.

I have had issues with both.... brand-new plugs out of the box that don't work. Not much you can do other than buy a couple of extras! But don't be surprised if you get a junk plug out of a set of 4.

I prefer the Autolite 295s for my Allis's. The local parts store (and those I stop in when travelling) do not stock the Autolite 295's; however, they will order them in for you. I keep a few sets in the shop, as I have a CA, two D12s, two D14s, and a D15 (and a few neighbors who find it more convienent to stop by for their spark plugs).

Currently have: 1 D14 and a D15S2.

Some sources list a different plug for the Series II but you will be fine with either for the Series I.

Thanks guys. If the plugs are similar to other maintainance items with this tractor they will be worn out! I will use these and also order a couple sets of Autolite to have on hand. I can't remember what's in it but I do know that there were two different varieties. Dave

I have always had the best luck with AC delcos. Everybody has there own preferences on spark plugs though.

I changed them out this morning. While the tractor starts and runs well I did note that the old ones are much blacker than I would like. This usually means that it is getting too much fuel?? I did not fiddle with the carburetor but will look in my manual to see if there is a rich / lean adjustment. Ideas??   Dave

Dave
Generally speaking, most tractors are not run enough to get everything to operating temp for an extended period of time and burn out the soot, and the thermostats are fairly low temps (170-180). And, these engines do tend to run on the rich side; go ahead and try to lean her out (you should have an idle jet and a fast idle jet), but don't be surprised if your plugs never get the nice brownish tinge you are used to seeing in an auto engine.
I'm guilty of not getting the engine to operating temp for an extended period. The Autolites seems to be a little hotter plug and does'nt seem to soot up as fast as the AC and Champions.
