I have been a small farmer with fulltime off farm work for 20 years, decided last fall to rent the crop land and keep my small beef herd for a few more years, then in April got diagnosed with CLL, ( a form of leukemia), and also a lot of lost pasture to high water so the decision to liquidate the cows was made, well today the last went, 2 bulls and a steer, I really hate to think of myself as a RETIRED FARMER but I guess that is reality. Thanks for letting me rant a little. I am taking treatments , 2 down and 4 to go.

Jim - Ya never know how things are gonna work out. Hoping your treatments do their thing. Ya might be back in the farming game -- just an extended vacation.

Jim,I hope your treatments do the trick. My Dad had CLL the last 10 years of his life and never was treated for it. There must be different kinds ? It's hard enough to have to leave a way of life without having to fight off the leukemia.

Sorry to hear about that, Jim... but keep your chin up, tough out the treatments, and live every minute you have.
Many years ago, I learned something very, very important. I found out that a friend of mine had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. We were out fishing one day, and he told me one thing I'll never forget... that there was only one difference between him and me, that was that both he and I could die tomorrow, but I wouldn't be expecting it. He lived another 13 years... but he lived 30 years' worth in that time. |
