Excellent job! I like the fact that you took the time to paint the alternator PO along with the rest of it. From what I have been told, everything but the headlights and tires should be orange(and galvanized rear rims), and no B decal. Looks great, nice, clean, simple look. That's the way they were made to look.
The 12 volt convertion makes good sense. A properly maintained 6 volt system will perform just as well as a 12 volt system, but with the one-wire alternator, wiring is so much simpler, and batteries are cheaper to boot. AC was a leader in innovation in their day. I don't think making changes that make things simpler and more reliable would be frowned upon at all.

Yea I am thinking about painting the rear rims galvanized aluminum but haven't totally decided it - I sort of like the all Orange look. No "B" decal? The sales brochure I have shows one thus why I put it where I did. Did not all come with a "B" decal?

The B and C never had a model decal. The later B's after the CA came out had a B decal from what I understand.I don't know what year yours is but it could be correct. The air cleaner tells me it is not newer than maybe early 52. What is your tractor number stamped by the gear shift?

Robby, I would say it definitely didn't come with the B decal, as Charlie said. Don't worry about it. My C has CA decals on it.LOL! I guess some folks just wanted decals on there showing a model. Since they never made decals for a C from factory, all they could get were the CA decals, and I guess some thought that was correct. I'm thinking aftermarket has made C decals available since then ,but I don't know.
As far as the rims, I like it better with them orange, especially on that tractor. B was such a clean looking, simple tractor. The monochromatic look really makes it look even more so. The colr scheme that you choose is the way you want it to look. It is yours. You took the time, sweat, and money to bring it to where it is. It can be any way that you want it to be and you don't have to answer to anyone for it, cause it is yours.
Enjoy as it is, or change it anyway that you want, but make changes based on what YOU want, not anyone else's suggestions.

Nice job on that B, I like the starter.handle, is that an original type for the early ones. As far as the B decal like oters have said its your tractor, I like to put them on to save a lot of questions at shows. Cal in ct.

To be honest I am not sure about the starter handle. It was that way when I bought it and it appears to be original so I kept it. On my 41 Farmall "A" there is a push style (with your foot) lever similar to this so I am assuming this one is correct (but you know what they say about assuming!!) .

I love your tractor; wish I could find a nice one. My Dad bought a B in '41 (the year I was born) with electric start, hydraulics and a set of 2-way plows. I believe he paid just over $800 for them then.
The starter was foot operated and the muffler was under the hood.
I have an operator's manual for the B and in every picture but one, the starter is foot operated. The hand operated starter switch is a loop (similar to the WD) on the RH side and just below the throttle control.
Is it my imagination or has the crank hole been filled?

No, sadly the crank hole was filled prior to my ownership. I debated cutting it back out but didn't. I may one day un-do what the previous owner did.
On this one, the starter switch is just as you decribed - a loop on the right side that you push forward

Robby, I am going to have to pile on with everyone else here. SWEET looking B. I think the solid PO rims look really good on the tractor. Makes the tractor really flow from front to back. Its perfect. If it were mine, only thing I would do, paint the muffer with some black BBQ pit paint. Great job!!

Nice looking B, You did a good job.
If it is a 1940, then there are several things that have been updated.
The 40 had hand brakes, a mag not a distributor, and the starter switch on the starter was at the bottom. The a switch at the top came in the mid 50's with a recess in the bottom of the gas tank for clearance, and as mentioned, a under the hood muffler. The "B" designator decal is said to have come about 51. Bob

I may have read the serial number wrong so I will recheck it tomorrow to verify the actual model year.
Thanks for all the nice compliments. This was my first tractor restoration. It probably looks better in pictures than in person but I still think it looks good and am proud of it but I know there are many out there that look much better.

My S/N is 42709 - if I am reading the charts right, it is a 1940. There
is no recess in the bottom of the tank for the starter lever. Doing a search on the internet and looking at other 1940 B's, I see that some have hand brakes (although some showed foot brakes like mine) but it appears they all have the same starter lever as mine.. As far as under the hood muffler, I can't find any documentation that shows anything other than an above the hood muffler on the B. The magneto was replaced during the 12V conversion - went with a modern distributor.

Here is one with hand brakes, under hood muffler, and push start rod. It also has silver front rims and a B decal. It looks nice too but the front rims and decal are not correct. Like a fellow said "it's your tractor" you are the only one that decides what suits you and what you want. Your tractor looks great too. Charlie
