Is it right, that you can have a different sound of the engine when you have both the same engine, like the diesel version?
I´ve seen some video´s from different XT, all diesels and i notice that there is a deviation in engine sound. Is that right? And if it is soi, how is that possible? Come´s that by the muffler?
I´ve seen XT that you hear the turbo wistle, but also XT where it is more like a ROAARRR like a V8 or so.
Thanks.

different turbo's were used over the years, as well as injection pumps with and without automatic timing advance. All these things can make them sound different. Also, audio sounds can be inconsistent. Ed.

Some of the diffence can come fromthe muffler and straight pipe also ther is some difference because of the different turbos that are used and then it is also probably the different house power out put the old ac mechanics had a habit of putting the screw to the pump and getting 120 horses out of the tractors Niel

I put a new muffler on my 1968 190XT because the turbo whistle was so load and shrill above 1800 RPM that it caused me to use ear plugs. With the new muffler I can't hardly hear the turbo anymore. In fact, while it was later at the dealer's getting the injector pump and injectors rebuilt, I had them check out the turbo to see if it was still working properly. No joke.

I will put an other muffler on my XT. Normal it is also a straight steel pipe but i would like to put a chrome curved pipe on it. Curious what difference in sound it will be.
I would like to give it a more a 'roaarr' sound

Put an over size pipe on it and that will give it more of a roar. I did this on my D-21 and it certainly did help it.

My 2 cents worth, for what it's worth.
At about 7500 hours, some of the early 190XT tractors would have the cam gear break off the end of the camshaft. The only part available, was a 200 engine camshaft. It had different valve timing and overlap and it sure didn't sound like an XT after that. If you didn't explain it to the customer before hand, he could get really excited. |
