I'm putting new brake pads on a WD. I'm having trouble removing the bottom pin on the housing where the brakes poviot. I've looked in the hole at the bottom the rear housing and the rod is rusty. Should I heat with a torch and try to loosen the rod? Any other ideas? Thanks

The WD/WD45 brake pins are the most notorious job on any Allis tractor, do a forum search for WD brake pin and you will find several pages of tips and tricks. May take one or a combination of methods to get them out, but all require PATIENCE. Good luck!

After you get them out, make sure you use anti-seize on the pins when you put them back in. You grandson (or whoever) will thank you in fifty years when he does the brakes next time.

Got access to a welder? When I did my brakes, I welded a bolt to the head of the pins then slipped a piece of pipe over the bolts with a few washers and pulled the pins. Worked very well.

We did that on mine too, welded a nut to the head of the pin so we could spin it and then try to work it out.  Some people will tell you to cut them out and buy new, but I think if you have enough patience you can get them out, but it is a huge pain in the arse...they rust to the housing and to the brake shoes both, so you will need to get it loose from both...

They sell stainless pins now. I would recommend you replace with stainless.

Heated up the first one, came out in a few minutes. The second one, worked all afternoon and won't budge. If you cut the pin, how did get it out? Tomorrow I'll try Brian's idea.

Read above link, but short answer is you cut about 1/2 inch piece out then drive pin in and cut again,till outside half is gone. Inside piece will usually come right out. Be carefull not to cut shoe ears. Read the links above !!!    Mark

b26240,have had to remove several of them that way.have yet to find the inner pin seized up,....plasma cutter works great.....

j.w.    I have done 5 brake jobes on these and one of them I did have a little trouble with the inner piece of the pin. I try to just take the pin out by soaking for several days with pb or similar then prying twisting and pulling and if they won't come out after a reasonable time I go right to the tourch. The last one I did for a fellow he had messed with it for about two weeks getting nowhere, I told him I would do the job for $400 pluss parts and he didn't hesitate as he thot it was hopless at that point. As I have said several times before on here I think this is can be the hardest repair job on one of these tractors.

26240.you did not rip the man off,those brake pins can be a real challeng.i think allis must have put the anchor pin in the middle of the assy.line and said.....LETS SEE HOW DIFFICULT WE CAN MAKE THIS REPAIR.....
