 Topic: AC rivet sample needed

Hi All,
Looking for a unused sample of rivet # 915701 and 915702 used on the allcrop sickle and I assume other sickles. Have no idea of the dimensions or where they go on the sickle, but I need to find an aftermarket source for them as they are no longer avaialable. Best way to do it is to send the wholesaler one.

Tom the dimensions are listed in the Standard Parts Catalog. If someone else does not post them, then I will publish them here later tonight when I get back to PA.

915701 is a #6 countersink 1-7/16 inch long
915702 is #6 oval head and is 13/16 incn long

Went online with these specs....doesnt look good.
The specs for rivets list all the rivets by dimension only...no such thing found as a "#6" rivet.
Will call a supplier to see if they can cross-ref.

Dale,
If you can be sure they are for the two part numbers I listed that would be great as the other rivet sizes needed I have already sourced. Once I nail down all the correct sizes and their modern equivalants, I will put a document up on the website explaining it all for everyones dancing and listening pleasure.

If I recall, all the section rivets are #6.

Just as I suspected,
I called Jay-Cee rivet, and they said "#6" doesnt mean anything to them, at least not anymore. So Im going to need a sample. I might be able to pound out the originals from the bar, but will need a metal shop to do it. I dont have the right facilites to extract a rivet undamaged, if thats even possible.
Gee youd think something like this wouldnt be such a hassle.

Tom: Can't you just measure the hole and let the rivet company suggest the proper rivet?

Tom,
They are all "#6" rivets. Just measure one of the other rivets that you have.... The diameter and head will be the same, as long as they are from the same family.

I thought all section rivets were the same diameter since they were mostly standardized to 3 or 4" sections. Shoup shows them as 0.211" diameter. Valubilt says 1/4" diameter. John Day says 7/32" diameter. http://www.johnday.com/customer/jodaco/downloads/catalogfiles/DayBook%20catalog/1-Farm%20Equipment%20(1-87).pdf which is close to 7/32". Measure the holes they go in. The rivet needs a couple to 5 thousandths clearance. McMaster-Carr says a #6 copper rivet has a 0.228" shank. But they don't offer any steel rivets that size.
I suppose rivets for guard plates might be a different size yet.
Its clear that most of the internet sellers think they have mower section rivets but their rubber ruler has only marks every 1/8" so they don't know what they really have. I suspect those at Shoup if long enough or at valubilt are right even though they are marked differently.
Its sacralige to say it here, but try a Deere parts department. Farm equipment, not lawn mower. And look for a gray haired parts seller.

Contacting SLI and a dealer search was the first thing I did. Was able to get three of the rivets.

All #6 may do the trick. Do you know if any of these numbers below are listed as "countersink":?
911176
910930 (same as 911177 per AGCO)
910931
If one of these is contersink then I think I will have enough info.

Hey Tom, I was look'in at your site and noticed you have 1939-1969 as dates of production. The 60 came out in 1935 (Announced in late 1934) as the High Speed combine, was wondering if you knew this?

Thats good stuff....When I get the three sizes I ordered I should be able to get it all figured out. I will publish my results.
PS what does the "HD" for 915702 mean?

In my DA cross reference manual I found: #6=.203 So there goes my military theory. Should have quit when I was ahead....Dale

Only question I had left was what "HD" means since Orange put a "Oval" and a "Oval HD" I thought there may be a difference...Would love to have that book...how much you want for it?
