Brass plated steel rivets

 I am encountering more and more brass plated steel rivets when relining brakes, You can't tell them from a a solid brass rivet by looking, so check your rivets with a magnet. The steel rivets will destroy your drums, I know this for a fact because of 2- $800 drums in my International 500. I think that it is just rotten to put these things on the market, dishonest is more like it, more than likley Chinese garbage, the brass plating is meant to deceive. The price for the lack of solid brass rivets can be very expensive indeed. Check them-----don't take somebody's word for it.    Tad

	I'm relining shoes on a rubber tired end loader(AC).Pretty sure the old ones are original.The old ones are brass plated steel as are the new ones I'm using.Some heads wore off but drums aren't hurt.This is slow speed operation so that may have something to do with it.

	Ideally one shoud replace lining before it gets to the rivets, but it just doesn't happen that way most of the time. I would not use the steel rivets, it is to cheap not to use brass. Mcmaster Carr carries a full line of tubular brass rivets. Thanks Tad

	Too many places are getting knock-off products of unknown quality from China these days just because of the cheap price. Going the cheap route always seems to cost more in the long run. I guess if you just want to get something going and you plan on selling it and never seeing it again that might be the way to go if you have no morals on what your selling.
