Well I guess Ive gone and done it, i finally bought a tractor for my property and the best thing its old. I picked up a wd 45 for $200. It ran when last parked just missing the water pump. Im trying to figure out the year. i looked at the serial number chart but my number set is only 5 digits (64562). I cleaned the surface but can not see any other stampings. Anybody know a good place in Ca for parts.

nice looking  tractor for 200$ cant go wrong there serial # should be listed on the back of the transmission on the left side as you look at it good luck thanks for posting  NICKMI

Looks like a 1950 WD. Parts can be got right here on this forum...everything you'll need to get that Baby going again...Just keep watching this forum..

If your tractor number is inconclusive, look for the engine number on the left side of the block. Compare what you find to Bryan Smith's numbers at this link.

It is entirely possible the engine is not original to the tractor, but this could answer a few questions.  Charlie

Most likely you have a WD. I am basing that on the radiator shutter and the straight seat support. Check the engine serial number as CT suggested. You might also check the top flange of the hydraulic pump, I have found the tractor serial number there on several of my tractors.

I'm thinking WD as well because it has the three bolt front end as well as the reason's stated above. Some real good shoppin' on your part though for $200.

The reason why I called it a Wd-45 is that back by the serial number it has WD45 stamped into it. It does not have a magneto. I am pretty sure past owners have been foolin aroud in the kitchen on this one.

Why would it have to be hand crank. I did not say it has a magneto but when it was new it did like most WDs with electric start other than the real late ones, I can see the press on tin oil fill cap vs. the screw on aluminum on on the 226 with distributors and the dist cap sitting to far back to have a factory setup. I didn't say it was a hand start I just said it had the magneto mounting flange.

where is it stamped, is it in line with the serial number or some where else, I though they all started with just WD, is you gear shifter straight or curved.

Supt. are you looking on the left rear axle housing just below the brake cover on the side facing the rear? They all start out "WD" and then the numbers. Serial # 146606 is the last WD with 146607 being the first WD45.

Im away from the house till tommorow but Ill get some better pics later. But on the left rear axle housing it looks a little like this,   WD 64562 on the top with 45 just below the wd

I would say you have a 1950 WD. If it has the original engine it will have a plate bolted to the right side of the block that the oil filter mount bolts to. The 45 did not have this plate. Second thing to look at would be the shifter. All but the last few WD's had a straight shifter. The 45 has a curved shifter.
