Was it 15 psi before the new bearings?

He has recently got the machine and had someone to work on it.15 psi seems low to me. I wondered if there was a pressure relief valve or any adjustmen to increase presure ? or perhaps the oil pump is at fault. He has no manual to work to.
Thanks Martyn

new bearings will not make up for worn cam bearings or worn crank - to much clearance and low oil pressure results.

Had the same problem. We replaced the cam & balance shaft bearings and had the bearing surfaces on the shaft welded up. It fixed the problem. |

When I bought my 5G - the seller told me he had just replaced the rod and main bearings but had light oil in it and pressure was low - well I changed oil and still low so i replaced the oil pump - still low - but operable - pressure dropped at idle but would come up to 30 PSI at 1800 RPM or so .
Couple years later I developed a oil leak at rear main - tore down and found crank was worn - had ground and new bearings as well as new pistons and sleeves , oil pressure came up 45 PSI . Couple years later replaced the head as one valve seat burnt and came loose . Also had small cracks to injector sleeve (a normal thing I found out later) and engine runs great yet 15 years later . Dang just counting I have owned the machine for over 35 years now - and it still runs.

Make sure it is not putting diesel in the crankcase.Detroits are known to have the fuel lines on top of the head start leaking around the fitting, but do not over tighten as that will make it leak more. They used to be cheap and just change them if there was any sign of oil being thinned with diesel.Don't know how parts are as DD as a company has had many owners in the last 20 years. And greenies don't like the 2 cycle diesel.I have seen this several times and much cheaper than new bearings.Good luck.

Saw the machine today as it shared a lowboy with my D4 enroute to a vintage show, seems to run OK. Will have a closer look at the machine on Saturday.
Thanks for your help.

Yes if you do any injector work or anything in that top end WATCH the injector lines . 15 inch pounds torque on line nut . double flare fitting and they will crack just behind flare thinning oil and dropping pressure .
