Just getting some opinions. Our club just passed new rules regarding alcohol tractors. 385 ci. max. Wondering if I should build a Ford 8000 with 4.2" bore (362 ci), or a 5.9 cummins with Allis sheet metal, which is allowed. I do have an 8000 kicking around, but I'm not stuck on it, I'd rather have an AC! LOL!! Just wondering what motor would be the best, have the most head flow, etc. Thanks!!

i dont know about the ford, however i know you can get anything everything and more for a cummins

The base block on both wouldn't be that hard to find it the alchohaul pieces and ignition parts... I'd like to do a 301 Allis on gas and turbo..

I think the ford has a little advantage. I've worked on the cummins heads and currently have a ford truck head for a LLSS that I need to get working on. I just think the ford will have an advantage with a better head, room for larger valves. The cummins has a high swirl port which may tend to seperate the fuel more than the ford head will. Both are going to be good engines to start with.

I agree with you, wi50. The ford head is big. So you think it will flow more?? My Allis roots are clouding my judgement! My ideal would be the Cummins with AC sheet metal, if it would be competitive. Particularly D21 sheet metal!
