Can one of the experts tell me if an early C with short steering arms used a smaller spline on the string box shaft? I'm trying to get the correct steering back and replace the cob-job that was on it. The spline pitch looks the same but my steering arm has been welded and won't fit on the steering box. It's just a little too small. I'm trying to figure out where the problem is. Thanks!

My short arm steering box on a C was Ross and my long arm steering box on a C is a Gemmer. the steering arms will not interchange. Not sure if there was a difference in the long or short arms if they were both Ross but think they would be interchangeable. (Think) is a guess on my part.
