   Would like to thank everyone for the great comments on our past restoration project and the logging show pictures. It was more fun than allowed by law, but we got thru it Thought we should post up what were going to try next. This is a picture of our father with the brand new HD11B dozer serial number #815,cable blade,Carco winch. It's a 1955 year model, the first year of production for this tractor. It was ordered from the Allis Chalmers dealer in Ukiah Ca., Akin Tractor and delivered in March or April  to the woods for logging the day this picture was taken.

 We'll use this straight blade,converting it back to cable and we'll use this lanova style engine that did run. This tractor is also a 1955 year model. This tractor has a bad main case now from stripped bolts in the intermediate pinon caps. (we call them donor tractors)

This will be the the transmission,frame and finals, this is a Lanova engine with a hole in the block, but it still has the dry steering clutches which we need (donor tractor)

This would be the canopy

These would be the swing frames and rollers

This would be the winch. All of these components were removed from a tractor that was the same year model except it had a cable angle blade (another donor tractor)

So my brother went down in back to the inventory and brought up the 2 choices for a cable hardnose, said here "take your choice,start at the front and let me know when you want me to start painting"  (so that's it,stay tuned)

	Nice! Definitely keeping my eyeball on this thread since I missed your others. Love the pic of your dad on the new machine. How much would that have set one back in 1955?

	I'm pretty sure it was around $21,000.00 the way it was equipped for logging then. That was a lot of money when timber delivered to the mill was only $10.00-15.00 per MBF.

	Steve, yes your right, both tracks are backwards, they were like that when we picked it up over 10 years ago

	I know my dads hd6g was 18,900 in 1964 brand new i remember him saying a hd6 dozer was about 14,000

	See quite a few pictures where someone has installed tracks backwards , wonder if the reason is to try to get more wear from bushings or ? Then it might be they run the machines more backwards than forward and it is the right direction for what they figured they were working in. What advantage is there to going back to a cable rig rather than hydraulic, seems if cable was used for skidding logs or log lift - then hyd blade would leave the rear open for this option. See a HD5G hiding behind the one machine - should also be the project on list . What machine is the 4-71 in the far background in - looks like it also is a candidate for the restore or the new coat of orange. Edited by Coke-in-MN - 29 Mar 2013 at 11:51am

	Coke, yes your right about backwards tracks.There could be other reasons, but are experience has always been most people just weren't paying attention or didn't realize there was a difference (we did it once) So the cable blade in this case is for rerestoration mostly. Hard to see in the early photo but the new tractor had a front mounted Garwood cable unit, Model #151. The same model unit was used for 11s,16s,or21s, that allowed you to have your rear mounted winch still.Ironically are father opted for the cable controlled dozer at the time instead of the hydraulics because the cable blade would lift higher and allow for more ground clearance around stumps. This would be the front cable unit. Yes the HD5 is on the project list and the 471 is in an HD9 that is just a farm tractor configuration. It runs ok and we have used it for farming (needs some other components before it makes the list)

	thanks for sharing the pics guys, you guys have a great collection of tidy straight ACs there pic of a sister bush rigged HD11B1351 that made it to the bottom of the world !

	Merv, Thanks for the comments, the sister tractor looks to be a 1956 model and you must still have the hydraulic tank on the right side of the deck. They only did that the first year or so before they put the tank and valve up in the front (and of course it's still orange too)

	When can i drop mine for off for a paint job? I would be afraid to paint it as I still use to earn a little on the side, and it would get scratched up, boy it would sure look neat though. thanks for the pics Edited by CAL(KS) - 31 Mar 2013 at 1:46pm

	Yep hyd tanks on rh side fender; is Mactractors machine now, has been in this area as long as me and did alot of work, still goes too

	Fine looking tractor Merv, owner must be proud. Coke, many ol timers prefered cable blade to hydraulic. The ones who had run tractors with both over many thousands of hours said the cable system cost way less to maintain in the long term. After having to spend a lot of money over the years on pumps, cylinder seals, valves and hoses, I quite believe them (Bob Letorneau`s ideas dont seem as silly to me these days) Personally, I prefer the look of cable blade tractors. The photo of Cal and his dads tractors shows that rugged look
