Ok I run 13.6x28's on my WC but keep hearing the same thing. Switch to 38's....with piss poor gearing ratios and stock engine, why? What's so much better about a taller tire? This question has plagued me awhile. I run farm stock and usually 3mph. I understand wider, just not taller.

I'll let smarter people than me answer this one, but, I will say that I have a set of 18/19 - 26 combine tires on one of my WD's and set it besides the one w/ 12-28's and they are the same height which should, in my mind mean the same footprint

i used to think like you guys, until i saw the guys with 38's beating me with 16.9x26 tires.put the combine tires back on the combines.look at the bottom of 38 tires then look at the bottom of 28 tires,38 tires will have one more bar almost touching the ground, when you start to pull hard, the third bar will be pulling.I am glad i switched when i did.good luck.PS-the guys beating you already switched, probably.

Mike nailed it! I did the same comparing between 34's and 38's and there is quite a difference even there.

I run pressed steel (9 bolt) wheels with adapters made for use with axle mount duals.

i used band-type duals with f&h flat-spoked hubs,it was a lot of work, but well worth it.a lighter option would be to use centers from a f-20 farmall.
