was looking at a ford pickup with a v10 gas engine. I bought a new one in 1999 and it had to have extensive repair at 55000 miles. Just wanted to know if anybody else had one. I know they sold a lot of them and I just prolly got a lemon. Wanted to find a truck just to drive sparingly and pull a goosneck with pulling tractor a few times a year, so gas mileage not as important as to most. Had a diesel (2004) cummins at one time and it would be nice to have again just not in the budget.

We have had 4 different V-10's that were bought new in our farm trucks. We have been very happy with them for what we use them for. The first V-10 is the only one we had to do any work on, and it was only spark plugs replacement. The truck had 80,000 miles and rattled funny when it was cold out. New plugs fixed it. I liked my old V-10 beter than my new 6.2L gas that I have now. Andy

I have a 2000 F350 w/v10, 140k miles. I have replaced the plugs at 80K. The only problem I have had is had to replace 5 coils, and the formed vac hose from PCV valve.

I don't believe the less power than a chebby 6, but I'm sure the gas milage is correct!

I've got one in a 99 F350 and really like it. It only has 55000 on it, and I only use it when I need the power. It gets about 10-12 mpg loaded or not. I dont have any complaints about power at all, and I think the fuel economy is decent enough considering the work it does.

lou, the chev 6.0 makes 300hp not sure about the ford.
if you want power and economy you gotta go diesel...i don't think any mfg. makes a good hd gasser anymore... not since the 454,440,460's

I've got a 99 F250 with a V10 that has around 130,000 miles on it. Around 100,000 miles I had the exhaust manifold bolts replaced because a few had broken, and changed the spark plugs while we were at it. About a month ago I replaced the vacumn manifold. So far that's the total engine repairs.

well they are actually closer together than I realized pre 2005: 310/425 after 2005 362/457 the increased HP and torque with the 2005 and later engines is the result of a redesigned head, w/3 valves

Hey lou done hauling weights around? lol thats about the same mileage I remember getting from my 99 truck. Sounds about like I figured, most were good and few had problems. I will not be driving this truck around regularly so mpg is not as important to me as some people. Thanks for all the imput

The link below will take you to a forum for Class C motor homes. Most Class C motor homes are the E-450 Fords, and some E-350, which ours is. There are a some Chevy. You will find a fair amount on the V-10. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/23.cfm

Look under trucks, barns, etc (or whatever the name of the page is) post titled "guys I need your help" Good to hear from ya buddy! And, now, maybe you can help me with the name of the fellow that got the weights

I drive a '11 F450 4x4 with V-10 and the power is good for a 11,000 # work truck. Gets less than 10mpg tho. The new one with 6.7 diesel is peppier and gets 11+ mpg same set-up. |

we service and repair these engines every day. fantastic motors. the old pushrod motors dont hold a candle to the newer moduler motors from ford......buy with confidence.
