    Posted: 24 Sep 2012 at 6:06pm
Have finally had a chance to tear into my WD.  Fixed the governor with the help of a friend, but it sounds like I have a bad exhaust valve now.  I have a 3 bolt WD45 that I had intended to rebuild, but in an effort to get the WD running have decided to use it for parts until I have the money and time to fix the 45 right.  In that light, can I use the head and valves from the 45 and use it on the WD to get the WD running good again?  am planning on checking the pistons and sleeves once I get it apart, but since the WD sits outside figured it would be better to have the head ready to put back on, rather than waiting for a couple days while the shop grinds the original head.  Will then take the WD head and use it on the 45 when I am able to work on it again.  thanks for all the help.  Jim

yes, the WD/WD45 heads are interchangeable, in fact the later WDs began using the taller head that would eventually be used on the WD45 (with minor changes). I would put the WD45 head back on the WD45 when you get it running you'll be much happier

depends on if that wd has a tall or the short head on it. If they are different you will need to change the pushrods and studs too.
