Why is there a letter at the end of the serial #? The twine guides are different than the other roto balers that i have seen in the past.

S Stands for standard I believe. There was a time when they made the Non-Stop and then just your standard Roto Baler. Hopefully someone else can confirm this. As for the twine guides...not sure. Something that someone had rigged up on the baler perhaps?

I looked up your serial # shown 9401 would make it a 1948 model, but that wouldn't make sense with the "S" as the fast tie models didn't come until the 1950s.

The twine guards look factory. It has a little spring that keeps tension on it. (right side of assembily)

That is an aftermarket attachment. I have seen them before. If memory serves me right they were supposed to prevent twine catching where it would in the standuard guides. Years ago there was a set on a baler at the show in Belmond Iowa. They had some issues with them that day and they took them out.
As far as the S I am not sure. Jim |
