 Topic: Ca generator

My Ca has a Alternator on it now but I was thinking, is there a way to put a 12V gen. on it to make it look more origanal, and still be a 12V. Has any one done this, what modifications would I have to make, inorder to make it work? Thanks.

There is a company that can put alternator guts in a gen case, although its only on certain models

I use a 12V gennie from the old Chevies (bolts right into the tractor gennie mount) and install a 12V Voltage regulator inside the tool box. Install a 12V coil (internally resisted) and change out the light bulbs to 12V ones. Be sure the coil is hooked up consistant with the battery grounding used (I go with neg ground to avoid confusion) and the VR is polarized (before attempting to start). After having a few ammeters short out, I now replace them with voltmeters.

If you have the original 6V Gennie, I can change it over to 12V. Then you won't have to use spacers or adapt a 12V from an early car or truck. Runs around $250. for the conversion. I can also supply a converted 6-12V but I gotta' get a core charge on top of that for the sixer. Now, if you really want to be slick, you can hide the VR in the toolbox. I offer a VR kit that you mount in the toolbox with panel & wiring for the B,C,CA machines. Drop us a line if interested....

Do you know how long it is? I think if it's up to 9 3/4'' it should work, just have to try it. Does it have fins on the pulley like a ALT. or is it just a plane pulley? Thanks
