Technically Yes, but you are putting an engine rated at the belt of 34.63HP, in a tractor that depending on the series, was designed around an engine running 250 RPM faster, and rated at 52.70hp at the belt.  As you can see, it will work, but the tractor will not perform to your liking, but with some money you can change all of that.

I would not recomend putting a WD engine in a D-17, I would recomend putting a diesel engine in if it had a gas job if you can find a diesel block for it.

If you have a WD45 block and you want to switch your D17 internals over you can but you'll need the WD45 crank. If it's a later D17 you'll be losing the full flow oil system.

I suppose you have a D17 with a bad block and a WD45 or at least the block.

I would look for a D17 block, or an E Gleaner motor instead but you gotta do what you can afford to do.

The diesel engine is longer so it takes a different input shaft to the power director planetary from the clutch, longer hood sections and frame rails, longer front steering shaft, a different radiator, and different (longer) wide front end to convert from gas engine to diesel. Not that I'm discouraging the diesel D17 (I like mine), just better off with an original diesel to start with.                                                                           BTW, I see you joined today, welcome to the forum.
