There are several deciding factors. Tin, rim condition, snap coupler or pin hitch and just overall looks. If it cleans up nice, it will probably be fairly easy to get running and will bring more. Seems like all these are popping up too far from me.

i gave 1500 for my ca and it was not running and needed 4 tires but since then i have done a full restoration from the ground up only thing left to do is put new paint on her but i can tell you after rebuilding her i would laugh at any offer less than 5,000 cant even buy the parts let alone the labor invested in my tractor for that but i know what it is and i know it will still be going long after i am dead and gone but if i broke it down and parted it out i would value it like this new motor 900 new tires 800 fire stone's front and back new stainless steel exhaust muffler 100 carburetor kit 25 hydraulic pump and gaskets 300 sandblasted rims and paint and primer 300 new stearing wheel 75 dollars new clutch and pressure plate and springs 480 plugs and wires 35 dollars new rubber boots and lever knobs 25 machined manifold and new gaskets 100 new pins for draw bar 25 rewired electrical 25 redid bullet light socket on fender 25 new bulbs 10 now after having stuck $3,225 in her i could say if i had not done all this my self and had a shop do it at 55 dollars an hour shop rate for the 80 hours of work i could say i stuck in her not including the gas or other time invested driving to get parts id say a 4 000 offer is more than laughable no offense just saying nothings free anymore

ca tractors around here that are in fair shape are in the the 1750 to 2000 dollar range but if that tractor is a bought new tractor by this fellas dad and is barn fresh and nice and straight and always been in a shed i would go more toward the 2,000 range with the implements he probally has the original manual for it laying in the house i bet.
but i have heard of guys getting lucky and buying stuff way cheap my dad being one of them but i dont have luck like that it seems like the only time i came close was with my 15 and that is in less than fair condition and needs brakes but i paid 2000 for it seems like none of the ac stuff is going cheap anymore. ![]() |

Am with AllisMan; a CA can be a real money pit, especially one that does not run; I also agree with his assessment of what a decent running one is worth. Is the engine stuck? If so, the chances of obtaining a good engine without a rebuild is slim; and you don't have an opportunity to assess the condition of the other mechanicals, hyrdraulics, and electrical. If the engine turns over, a little time with a set of point files, fresh battery, new plugs, fresh gas, a can of brake cleaner, a few wrenches should get it running. I always have a deal in place with the owner about purchase depending on condition before I attempt to fire the engine. Start by checking the spark, then the fuel flow to the carb. You may need to pull and disassemble the carb to clean it. Use fresh fuel from a seperate tank (I have a 1 quart plastic oil jug with a long nozzle and hose for this purpose). I have fired up several "non-running" tractors with a little effort. Once you get the engine running, you can assess the condition of it and the drive train (tranny, engine and hand clutches, brakes, pto, and hydraulics) and the electrical (starter, genny, lights). Alternatively, if the owner is really motivated to get rid of it....???? Have acquired some for scrap prices when the owner did not want to wait for me to get one running.

I'm more optimistic than Greg. The 125 engine is easy to rebuild, parts are easy to find new or used. The rest of the tractor is pretty simple. When it comes to money pits, D17D, D19D, or WD45D engines are tough to beat in the money pit/sponge dept... |
