Welcome to the best tractor site on the web. I hope you realize you are now more than likely doomed to a life of Orange. They tend to grow on ya. Looks like a pretty straight tractor with a few modernizing adaptations.

Very nice and very straight tin work. Looks like good rubber as well. If it has the factory rear light, It is a great find.

My Boy did good, didn't he? He went with me to look at it and decided he wanted it as his first. He's already put different tires on front, repacked the wheel bearings, cleaned the plugs, and changed the oil. Not bad for a 12 year old!

Your play could be coming from almost any where in the steering. You did a good job starting at the bearings, as long as you snugged them up properly. If you are satisfied with the job you did, move up the line to any linkage or ball joints and check for excessive play. Do not know if your tractor had been properly greased, check that also.

The play can usually be snugged up to a certain extent but you first have to check to see where the play is coming from, could be one of severals points between the steering wheel and the front pedestal. Wouldn't hurt to pick up a good service manual for your tractor, always handy to have around and it will show you how to make adjustments.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM, young man.
Great little tractor, I know that you'll love it.
When you turn the wheel does the rod on the side move? If not, the problem is in the gear box. They use a worm gear with a "follower" that tends to wear. Bob

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. Like said above, a little detective work and you can locate the cause of the front end wobble. May take a lttle more work, but parts and repairs probably won't be that tough. just a little messy but at 12, that would be a good thing.

Nice tractor Kaleb. My first was also a C. A 1950 wide front. I still love that tractor. Pull your starter off and you can adjust some steering slop out by tightening the slotted bolt that is under there a turn or two. You can also remove a shim from the front pedestal. My 10 year old son's first tractor is a B208 lawn tractor & He is bugging me to find him a B or C to start pulling with. Good luck & enjoy this great hobby with your Dad! Kip

Congratulations Kaleb! Nice little C there. I think they all have some wobble in the front ends by now. It's not hard to get most of it out. I had a B steering box that the follower pin was worn down over half it's diameter. A little welding and some careful grinding and filing got it almost as good as new. I still have yet to takle the front pedestal ,but it's coming. If you need parts, I probably have a few things lying around that I don't need. Think your dad has my number. Not too far from you.
Enjoy, and work on it with your dad every chance you get. It will be something you'll appreciate later.

We replaced the manifold gasket, a broken stud, adjusted the valves and found a muffler and oil cap. A good day.

Welcome. nice tractor there... Looks a lot better than most I have started from. They are pretty simple and made for easy repairs in a simple shop.Keep an eye out for some original front rims. Nice thing about B and C is there are lots of parts out there.
