Power Washing

questions. Alright y'all I am not an expert trying to clean baked on grease from an old engine. How do experts do this? I used a cold water gasoline fueled high pressure washer and pretty much it didn't do squat. I scraped with a putty knife on my XT for 5 hours. I scrubbed engine degreaser with various brushes. It is still dirty. The tractor is a late 1970 which was parked in a shed in 1987. The good is it only was active 17 years. The bad part is it has just sat for 23 years. But what does it take to clean...steam? How do you pro's do it? Thanks, Dana

I have 1100-16s on my 4020. Definitely a tall tire bur I think saves front spindles from shock when I hit plow furrows or badger holes. And gives better front axle clearance for cultivating and spraying. The 4020 came with 7:60-16 which were too small, I think.

For a bit smaller tire look at a 11L16. It won't stand up so high but still fits the 8" wide 16" rims. Most often seen as a wagon tire though but I think Its available as a tractor front 3 or 4 rib.

I let it soak for 10mins-1/2 hour. don't do it unless you're going to re-paint the tractor though.

Dad's 190XT has 10.00X16 up front with 18.4X34 rears-looks good too.

i will have to wholeheartedly with acwd45.i have found if you use the oven cleaner,it is best to use it in hot sun light,it will work much faster.oven cleaner will take it down to the bare metal,much like paint remover.i have 6 wd45,s,gasd and diesel i have used it on and the results were good.wash it off with at least a 3400 psi pressure washer,and your done...oh yes keep the pressure washer away from gaskets,such as manifold gaskets and rocker box gaskets...they will disappear...

My XT came with 7.5 x 16s on it, but I got a set of 10 x 16s with rims from a 200.  Looks a lot meaner now.  10 x 16 on your rims should not be a problem.

Oven Cleaner and Scrubbing Bubbles....2 best degreasers EVER.....just watch because oven clean will take loose paint right off lol

Orange hand cleaner mixed with a little dish detergent works good.
Spread it on and brush it in.
Do this in the morning.
Later in the afternoon brush in some more.
In the evening hit it with the brush again and then pressure was it.

Anyone ever tried Simple Green. Do not dilute, if parts are left in uncut liquid for 24 hours or so it will remove paint. Used it over the weekend to clean up my brake shoes and seat assembly parts. Let them soak for 10-15 min or so, then scrubbed with a wire brush. There was actually orange paint under all the dirt on the seat assmbly. I had planned to remove the grease and dirt then bead blast. There was more orange paint under there could not bring myself to blast it away.

I reckon I'd give ole purple power and a good pressure washing a try.
