SWIT, Anyone who has owned and used an Alis B will have neverending regrets if they let it get away. Listen to your wife. Just add some more space to store it. Another way to look at is - will your truck still be plowing snow 67 years after it was built? Just my $0.02 worth.

I'm with Bob with this..buy or build a shelter for your B. Either a 'car canopy' or leanto shed on you existing garage.I regret selling my CA and the G,even though I have 'replacements', it's NOT the same !!
Think of the B as 'insurance' for when the pickup doesn't start when you need it to plow !

WOW, wish I had the green light to build a mega-shed-barn. You know that's what she is saying don't you?
P.S. Build it 2-3 times the size you think you will need.

Your obviously intelligent wife practically insists on you keeping it and you still feel the need to ask our advice? I'd have built the shed by now.

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

If you are reluctant to build a shed, or add on to existing, suggest adding a "small upstairs" in an existing building. Move some things up there so you have main floor room for the B with snowplow.

I can only hope that you will keep my favorite. It is obvious that you are an outstanding owner and take good care of the B. Also, the B has responded and given you excellent service.
I cannot believe, but you also have your wife's permission. Remember, you have a collector's item in the B that is still pulling it's load. I sincerely hope you decide to keep it. Let us know how it goes. Do you have a picture. Good Luck! Bill Long |

...and then double that... and put insulation under the slab, and PEX tubing IN the slab... and wrap it tightly in steel, put a 200A panel in the wall... overhead door landing on concrete apron AND a man-door with stoop, overhang, and light... refrigerator, microwave, toilet/shower and a slop sink with a big dispenser for Fast Orange (with pumice)... wood-burning furnace in the corner and a little space for big wire baskets of firewood... full stereo sound, satellite TV, overhead bridge-crane, LED night-lights and big sodium low-bay lighting zones for working... |

Dave, You forgot the bunkroom with satellite TV. My shop doesn't come up to your recommendations, but my wife (joking, of course) says that I will move into mine someday. Now it's off to the Skowhegan State Fair this afternoon to check on HER MM Avery Model V on display and to volunteer a shift at the Lions Club food building. Bob@allisdowneast

You could at a minimum get one of those 18 x 20 steel "sheds" that they put up for $1000. a couple extra sheets of steel for the side walls and it will do for sever al years... NOw, what to do with a B.. I bought one, then bought a blade for it. Got another, then a woods mower for it.. Bought a third and needed a sickle for it. Fourth, and had to get a center mount mower/ chopper for the heavy stuff. Fifth, and had to have a second blade ? Now the 6th, im not sure what implement it NEEDS, but it does pull a plow and disc.

|
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

My brother put one of these hoop sheds up 4 or 5 years ago. He winters his boat in it. It's stood up to some nasty storms and several winters and summer heat and still looks as good as it ever did. I don't know that his is this brand but it is similar. http://www.portablegarageshelter.com/garden-sheds/

Buy another to keep it company. I told my wife that the slab in the shop would sink on one side if I didn't add tractors to the other side to even it out.

I really like Thad's thinking. I'll have to point this out to my wife. But our son, who is a professor of civil engineering at U Maine, can't be there when I try this. He might blow me out of the water. But is is a new twist on justifying the next addition. Bob@allisdowneast

You can also consider a 8X20 or 8X40 "cargo container" for a storage shed. Cost is reasonable and the tax man does not consider them to be a permanent structure.

Greg,Not so sure about that not taxable thing. Indiana was about 8-10 years ago putting a $500.00 value on old truck boxes and the like that appear to be used for storage. They do this mainly to encourage the property owner to get rid of said eyesore.

I had a 12x16 shed that my CA would fit in when I lived in a mobile home park. You can buy one of those metal yard buildings quite reasonable...
