Nextel Blackberry. It just went for a swim this week and seems to be a total loss. I backed it in the oven and had it in a bag of rice. No dice. The flash bulb lights up when I install the battery but nothing else comes on:(

I got you all beat...
My FIL owns a single employee company...he got a cell phone plan which came with extra phones he doesnt need...want one he says? Sure! I dont abuse it so as to not ring up charges past the "free" minutes...Just use it for calls and not any of the other nonsense like texting....and hence doesnt cost me a thing. Otherwise I probably wouldnt have one. I dont like being "in touch" anymore than I have to.

Motorola Defy. My business is so internet based, it demands I have good access to email/internet. I can sit as McDonalds, and take your parts orders while choking on a big Mac.
It's tough. Water resistant to 10ft. Corning Gorilla Glass. Has been in it's holster when I'm on many fire department runs, and never been cracked, ot melted. Like somone else said, I just run it under the faucet to clean it up.

Have a Blackberry Bold. Has been a tough one. Have to have it for work. Better to get my e-mails with, since nobody has the time to pick up the dang phone and call me anymore. Got the "Otterbox" protective case with it. Have dropped it 30' from a crane before and it still worked.
Have a Samsung Convoy(el-cheapo) for personal use. Wife has a Blackberry curve. All on Verizon. Will be with another provider as soon as contract is up. Reception is lousy in our neck of the woods.
Been well satisfied with the Blackberry. Not planning on going to a touchscreen phone. If the Droid OS would come on a non-touchscreen phone, I might be interested. Seen too many touchscreens screwed up or just quit working.

Motorola Tundra with AT&T. I've had it for more than two years and I haven't drowned it or broke it so it's pretty tough. Though I haven't run it over with the semi yet (that phone still worked other than the LCD screen)

I have a Rugby II with AT&T. First one I had fell 60 ft. off the top of the silo. Only thing between it and the cement was about 2'' of corn silage. Yes it still worked, climbed down, picked it up, it was still on and still worked.

Motorola crush, dont actually like talking on the phone when I am driving but, it has increased my business efficency cause I get my email and have internet so if someone answers my adds about mowers or parts I can mapquest their address and pickup stuff, beats going home just to find an email and have to go right back to an area where I just came from.

I'm rough on phones and I have verizon service and I have the Casio GzOne Ravine. Very tough I drop it from anywhere and havent broke it yet and can wash under the faucet in the sink when I get it real nasty and it doesn't bother it works like its new.Its just a flip phone and not one of the fancy ones that do all the internet stuff but Casio now makes a Droid that is dust and water proof that Ive heard good about so if I wanted to get on the internet all the time I would prolly get it.

mine is a verizon , commando camanche, i just picked it up monday and it will do anything you want from internet to gps. for me to get to peoples places without getting lost, like just turn at the big oak tree and go one mile, which never works, i told them i wanted the toughest phone they had and they said this was it and i have to say it holds up well i have dropped it twice once on cement and it falls out of my pocket without damage, they only problem i have is it will not last all day on one charge, but i am on it all day long. i am happy.

I think all things easy have to be paid for. Therefore these things just might cause cancer. If so, the world population will slowly drift off into the world above, dying from cancer. Time will tell. Mine is a Breeze w/AT&T. I will cancel in may. Don't need it.

Motorola Droid - Verizon
I got it about a year and a half ago and I never thought I would use it as much as I do. I thought the limitations of the screen and keyboard would keep it from being useful.
WRONG! It isn't a laptop but it will do a lot and...
...you carry it in your pocket so it's always available.
However, when I was in Brazil this past January and I found myself in the middle of the flash floods that killed about 1000 people that night, I realized I needed a smartphone that's also a "World" phone.
That's the next step for me.
Best regards,
Scott

Basically scaredy cats. So far there's not been any reproducable evidence of cell phone transmitter damage to anything. Secondary effects are legion, like driving off a cliff while dialing. They don't understand radio or its effects and so are afraid of the dark.
I'm using a $10 tracfone that has on the basics. And almost decent sized buttons and display. It doesn't fold so it gets turned on in my pocket on occasion. When I got it working the first day, Verizon offered to run it on their system, for probably bout $60 a month. I get a year for less than $80 with at least 200 minutes or 400 since I plunked down $30 for minute doubler card. And usually get a few months bonus days when I add a year on line with just a few minutes. Otherwise I can get four 90 day and 60 minute cards for $79.80 at wallyworld. Gerald J. |

That's what I don't understand. If thay find no adverse health effects, then there is no evidence of anything. But then they go on to say there is evidence. So apparently there is no "yes or no" answer, they just want to say that they imagine a problem might come about.

There have been a couple doctors where I work that were talking about cell phones and tumors caused by them 10 or more years ago. FYI (CNN) -- Radiation from cell phones can possibly cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization. The agency now lists mobile phone use in the same "carcinogenic hazard" category as lead, engine exhaust and chloroform. Before its announcement Tuesday, WHO had assured consumers that no adverse health effects had been established. A team of 31 scientists from 14 countries, including the United States, made the decision after reviewing peer-reviewed studies on cell phone safety. The team found enough evidence to categorize personal exposure as "possibly carcinogenic to humans." What that means is they found some evidence of increase in glioma and acoustic neuroma brain cancer for mobile phone users, but have not been able to draw conclusions for other types of cancers "The biggest problem we have is that we know most environmental factors take several decades of exposure before we really see the consequences," said Dr. Keith Black, chairman of neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The type of radiation coming out of a cell phone is called non-ionizing. It is not like an X-ray, but more like a very low-powered microwave oven. "What microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain," Black said. "So in addition to leading to a development of cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes are where we hold our cell phones." Wireless industry responded to Tuesday's announcement saying it "does not mean cell phones cause cancer." CTIA-The Wireless Association added that WHO researchers "did not conduct any new research, but rather reviewed published studies." The European Environmental Agency has pushed for more studies, saying cell phones could be as big a public health risk as smoking, asbestos and leaded gasoline. The head of a prominent cancer-research institute at the University of Pittsburgh sent a memo to all employees urging them to limit cell phone use because of a possible risk of cancer. "When you look at cancer development -- particularly brain cancer -- it takes a long time to develop. I think it is a good idea to give the public some sort of warning that long-term exposure to radiation from your cell phone could possibly cause cancer," said Dr. Henry Lai, research professor in bioengineering at University of Washington who has studied radiation for more than 30 years. Results from the largest international study on cell phones and cancer was released in 2010. It showed participants in the study who used a cell phone for 10 years or more had doubled the rate of brain glioma, a type of tumor. To date, there have been no long-term studies on the effects of cell phone usage among children. "Children's skulls and scalps are thinner. So the radiation can penetrate deeper into the brain of children and young adults. Their cells are at a dividing faster rate, so the impact of radiation can be much larger." said Black of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In February, a study by researchers at the National Institutes of Health, revealed radiation emitted after just 50 minutes on a mobile phone increases the activity in brain cells. The effects of brain activity being artificially stimulated are still unknown. Neurosurgeon and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta says Tuesday's announcement, "dealt a blow to those who have long said, 'There is no possible mechanism for cell phones to cause cancer.' By classifying cell phones as a possible carcinogen, they also seem to be tacitly admitting a mechanism could exist." Manufacturers of many popular cell phones already warn consumers to keep their device away from their body and medical experts say there other ways to minimize cell phone radiation. The Apple iPhone 4 safety manual says users' radiation exposure should not exceed FCC guidelines: "When using iPhone near your body for voice calls or for wireless data transmission over a cellular network, keep iPhone at least 15 millimeters (5/8 inch) away from the body." BlackBerry Bold advises users to "keep the BlackBerry device at least 0.98 inch (25 millimeters) from your body when the BlackBerry device is transmitting." The logic behind such recommendations is that the further the phone is from the body, the less radiation is absorbed. Users can also use the speakerphone function or a wired earpiece to gain some distance. Users can text instead of talk if they want to keep the phone away from their faces. Finally, cell phones emit the most radiation when they are attempting to connect to cellular towers. A moving phone, or a phone in an area with a weak signal, has to work harder, giving of more radiation. So users can avoid using their cell phones in elevators, buildings and rural areas if they want to reduce their exposure, experts say. |
