what they use is coal sl*g, what is left after it is ground up and blown into boilers m you get sl*g, and fly-ash in the firebox, the sl*g is graded and used for blast material and for roofing shingle grit. ,

Its being used for OSHA and EPA reasons. I hate the stuff. Pits the metal bad. Silica sand does way better job. BB is ok for semi trailers and the such but not our sensitive sheetmetal parts on tractors hehehhe.

Plus premium playground sand only costs @3$ /50lbs. Breaks the clay up in my back yard also.
Soda would be the way to go if it wasn't so expensive. Rain just dissolves it!

It's fine for aggressive blasting, but for most tractor restoration work, garnet works the best, not much more than sand cost-wise, much safer, and cuts faster with similar finish results.
