I recently baught a series 1 d17 diesel that was missing a dipstick for the motor oil and was wondering if maybe they used the same one from the  wd 45 or other like tractors any help would be appreciated thanks

Personally, I would be looking for a dipstick that fit my Series 1 D17 Diesel !!!

Not all dipsticks are the same.  I would definitely get one that was made for that tractor.

I was just wondering if one from another allis tractor would work and be the correct one for the tractor all the junkers I see in the salvage yards are all gassers not diesels if anybody has one theyd sell that whould help to thanks

Ted, I lost one in my 7040 a few years ago, went to Agco ..... $60 for it.... got a small block Chevy dipstick measured off another tractor (7000 series with 426ci) cut and marked it for $8

I checked my d17d and my WD45G and the dipsticks seem to nearly identical 9-1/2 inches
from the stop to end.

If I did this right you should see two photos of two different dipsticks.  The one that says full (the bottom one) is from a WD and the other is from a D17D.  One of the pics works, the other i still in a link format.

I measured my series 1 diesel dipstick. It's 9 3/4 inches to the top of the inside of the cap from the tip. The add line is 1 9/16 from the bottom and the full line is 2 3/16.
