Why did Allis slow the 175 tractors down ?
And The later 175 tractors even had a slightly bigger diesel engine. Than the 170 diesel. My understanding is it was done thru the final drives. But I am still learning... What the story here ? Edited by Macon Rounds - 2 hours 33 minutes ago at 10:00pm |

175-180-185's all have the heavier duty/wider bull gear final drives that are 5.85 to 1 ratio. This began in 1967 with the new model One-Eighty. The HP was 64. The weight (with fluid) was around 8,000 lbs. The rear rubber was 18.4 x 28's that are larger diameter than a 16.9 x 28. The gear ratio reduction offset the larger diameter tire so that high second gear was still "plow gear". So, in the end engineers felt that anything over that 55 HP number was going to get the stronger final drives. Remember, after the 190XT and D-21 rear end failures, they weren't taking any chances.

In my arena 170/175 tractors are not a tillage tractor.
And in the rhelm of bigger tillage tractors why would you slow the 175 down. I currently run 30" tires on my D17's and 170 tractors for hay making operations. So to speed them up. I feel like i'am sleeping on my 175... Great technical data on the 175. Thanks Doc... Edited by Macon Rounds - 1 hour 51 minutes ago at 10:42pm |
