Went to a friend's place in Illinois Sunday. Shot some video of the corn harvest using older equipment of many brands.

Eric plants 38" rows. I think that's as narrow as the mounted pickers can get through.

Gosh, 38-inch rows were used 75 years ago & still being used a few places today to make the old stuff work.  If it ain't broke-don't fix it.

I plant 36's here. Wouldn't mind going to 30's but would need a different cornhead and planter..... Ones I have now are paid for and work great. Have a buddy, that runs a lot more acres than me, that's on 36's too.

I've thought about going to 30's a lot. How many bushels do you need to improve/acre to pay for the new (to me) equipment? A 6/11 Kinze around here still brings $15,000 and will need a bunch of parts before you ever go to the field. A decent 1063 IH cornhead might be bought for $4000ish? I'll just keep running what I've got.

My earliest memory of picking corn as a kid was a one row pulling a wagon. Then sholving out of the crib. Then came a fella with a two row Gleaner, amazing piece of equipment. We finally had a MF 650 and I thought that thing was a monster.
