I have a D17 Series 4 the engine was recently Resealed front and rear mains, etc. I hooked it up to a single shank snap coupler ripper/subsoiler recently and ever since I have had a decently sized oil leak coming from the cover underneath the tractor behind the engine (where the engine and clutch/transmission meet) any ideas as to what happened and how to fix? thanks

Sounds like a rear main seal failure. If it is in fact that, the engine has to be pulled and the seal has to be replaced.

Unless this was done by an experienced old A-C mechanic, he simply installed the rear seal WRONG. This assumes of course it is the rear seal actually leaking. Did he replace the clutch shaft seals (2) ??

After looking at it some more I’m thinking it may be hydraulic oil? It appears to have oil dripping off the shaft in there and the hydraulic fill cap was plugged up where the air is supposed to escape could that have been the issue? If so I’m assuming I’ll need to replace that seal?

I dont know what Doc would say but if it was mine id get that cap un plugged and try it a little while. When that resivoir heats up it will pressurize with the vent plugged and force oil out the seals

I never try to dive into something unless I know for sure it needs diving into. Make your breather work and run it awhile. Remember, now that there has been oil leaking in that area, it's going to drip slowly for a long time, even if the source of the leak stops. EDIT: I always replace those two clutch shaft seals when the tractor is split. I always remove the bronze bushing inside the hollow shaft (and throw it away) for easier gear shifting. I always replace the throwout bearing even tho the clutch may not get changed. I have to. I can't be splitting something twice.
