B throttle

The throttle on my b does nothing till 1/2 way up the quadrant. I read somewhere that when this happens is because the spring above the governor is loose and to bend the lever until the spring is tight , Then that should solve the problem?
If I do that, will it increase the full throttle rpms?

its possible the governor rod is off with respect to the carburetor... but FIRST, loosen the square lock screw holding the throttle rod to the throttle handle, and pull the rod BACK 1/4 inch and relock... and retest..

Mine does not have the square head set screw. It has a threaded piece, looks home made. The threads looks sketchy. I guess I could drill the threads out to fit the rod and drill and tap for a set screw.

i would do something with the rod length to arm and see how that works.

this site will take up to 2 MB photos.. Too large for me... If your on a computer, open the photo is PAINT and shrink to 800 x 600 pixels... if your on a phone, send to yourself, then RESIZE to get down around 100 kb.... Most cameras these days are taking 5 MB photos.. at 5000 x 4000 pixels.

most of the factory throttle assemblies i have seen look like this... they have a piece of wire thru the hole where the ROD goes and the LENGTH is adjustable... SOMEHOW you need to shorten the rod length to the governor...... and see if that helps..

Best picture I can get. You should be able to see what it is by enlarging it. Someone welded a rod to the original rod.

For maximum RPM's the rod has to be pushed forward as far as it can go. There should be  a "stop" on the governor spring arm to keep it from going too far.

yea, DR  is right... the rod should be LONGER, not shorter... try disconnecting the rod and push the ARM on the GOVERNOR further forward and see if that is the problem..

I looked at the throttle yesterday and I decided to leave it alone.
It has full speed, just nothing at the lower half of the quadrant.

And that is the way some of them are. Those engines are used in other applications and sometimes have different governor springs/governor spring lengths. If 100% full speed can be achieved, what's on the other end of the throttle lever stroke means nothing.

I have a Woods l59 mower on it so it has full speed to run the mower. That is all I use it for.
